Acho Dene Native Crafts
Acho Dene Native Crafts is a BDIC subsidiary based in Fort Liard that retails and wholesales locally produced produced birchbark baskets, jewellery, moccasins, mittens, mukluks, and other souvenirs.
the store’s products are the work of dozens of individual cottage producers, who use locally-harvested materials and incorporate intricate beadwork, quillwork, and tufting techniques that have been passed down through generations.
The store, which also doubles as Fort Liard’s visitor information centre, began operating in 1976 as a project of the Government of the Northwest Territories. It was sold in 1992 to the NWT Development Corporation, and by 1995 its sales capacity had expanded to include wholesale operations.
