BDIC and Futurpreneur Canada Partner to Bring Mentoring and Support to Young Entrepreneurs in the NWT
YELLOWKNIFE – (February 26, 2016) – The Business Development Investment Corporation (BDIC) will support the success of young entrepreneurs in the Northwest Territories through a partnership with Futurpreneur Canada to deliver a mentoring program and series of entrepreneurial bootcamps for young entrepreneurs.
Mentor-Me NWT is a 6-month structured mentoring program for young entrepreneurs, the first of its kind in Yellowknife. Entrepreneurial mentoring provides a tangible boost in personal and business success, and is a powerful tool for community-building in the North, engaging business owners to leave a lasting impact on younger generations.
“Growing and diversifying the NWT economy is critical for the future success of this territory and its residents,” said Premier Bob McLeod, Minister responsible for the BDIC. “Entrepreneurs provide the energy and ideas we need to achieve that goal and the BDIC is pleased to partner with Futurpreneur Canada to support young entrepreneurs throughout the NWT.”
“We are thrilled to have a Futurpreneur Canada representative on the ground in Yellowknife to deliver the critical support young entrepreneurs need to launch and sustain successful businesses,” says Joelle Foster, Futurpreneur Canada Regional Director. “Through this thoughtful investment from BDIC, we look forward to working with local partners to equip young entrepreneurs with the skills and resources they need.”
Since its inception in 1996, Futurpreneur Canada has collaborated with all levels of government, corporate supporters and community partners to advance youth entrepreneurship in Canada. Its internationally recognized mentoring program matches young entrepreneurs with a business expert from a network of more than 2,800 volunteer mentors. As a result, the organization has invested in 9000 entrepreneurs, who have created an estimated 34,656 jobs and an estimated $217,000,000 in tax revenue.
